  • Question about Eye Spa Treatment

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but it looks like there's a ton of great information.

I was wondering if anyone could share with me their experiences performing the Eye Spa Treatment in Dr. Latkin's book. I've been struggling with Dry Eyes for about a year now, and I'm unemployed so no health insurance which unfortunately means I don't know the underlying cause of my dry eye. I have worn contacts for many years, and I suspect that they are the culprit.

I was most specifically wondering how long it took for people to see appreciable results when performing the Eye Spa Treatment. Dr Latkin is pretty vague in the book. I was also wondering if certain types of heat compresses work better than others, etc.

    Thanks!!

I sort of forget the details of the "eye spa," but my eyes started feeling much more "alive" (probably better circulation) in only a few days after beginning the eyelid massage. I pull off a bit of the cotton from the q-tip so it's less cushioned, then wet the end and used that to press the skin under the lashes. I do the lid massage in the morning after a wet compress.

At first I was overdoing it on the warm compresses. I made them too hot. That seemed to aggravate the dryness. Now I switch off from doing them twice a day to once a day if my eyes get "riled up." If I do 2 a day, I do a wet compress in the morning and a rice baggy compress at night.

I don't know what part of the eye spa is helping, but I definitely notice that my eyes have stopped making so much goop and mucous. To me, that means they are less inflamed and healthier. Maybe the combination of expressing oils, wiping the debris (although I never seem to see much of anything), and thoroughly rinsing with PF drops rids my eyes of irritants.

I quit wear contacts 3 months ago, also, and that has been a BIG help---I hate to admit it, 'cause I loved wearing contacts, and prided myself that I could still "manage" them, even with dry eye. Reflecting back, I realize my eyes are more comfortable now than they have been in years. I even see better with glasses (not the wide field of vision though), because I'm not struggling with goopy, contaminated, dried-out lenses.
