  • How exactly do you clean/warm your eye-lids? (step by step guide for dummies?)

Well, this is a dumb question but I'm a bit unsure about how to clean my eye-lids... or how to warm it.

Firstly I assume that you should never clean the inner side of your eye lids?
What exactly do you clean? The eye rim? the lashes?

How to you apply warmth? Do you use luke warm, hot, or boiling tap water? Do you first boil the water in a kettle? Where do you apply the warmth? If you apply it to your outer lids (with eyes closed) do you not warm/heat up your cornea underneath?- that can't be good.

Do you also warm the area just under your bottom eyelids?

desertcry, I was also a bit confused about this process myself, however now that I seem to be getting it right, it's really proving beneficial.

I use a heatpack, typically used for applying to sore muscles, warm it up for 10 minutes in a pot of boiled water, remove and put it over my eyes for 5 to ten minutes, making sure it;s not so hot it hurts your eyes. I then remove and keeping my eyes closed, gently massage along my top eyelash line with a finger for a minute or two each eye.

I don't do lid scrubs. the warm compress and light massage does the trick for me, helping to make the lipid oils flow nicely.

While you don't want to burn your eyelids, the heat won't cause any problems on your eyes.

    good luck.

That's not necessarily so. If you have rosacea, you do not want to use heat. Use a warm compress for a few minutes only and only do it once a day. Cold compresses are fine for rosacea.
Also, even for people without rosacea, the water does not have to be very hot. It should be just comfortable enough on your skin.
Jads, I highly recommend that you buy Dr. Latkany's book "The Dry Eye Remedy". He explains it well. And, no, you don't clean the inside of your eyelids, but you do gently clean the part of your eyelid on the inside of your eyelashes. Use a wet Q-tip. It doesn't matter if the water is warm or cold. Whatever is comfortable.

Does anyone know if cleaning the inside of the lids can cause worsening of dry eye? My husband was given incorrect instructions by his doctor and cleaned the inside of his lower lids (by pulling them away with one hand) using Ocusoft wipes.
