  • Tool for MG expression

As always sorry if this has already been talked about - but I've been thinking that some kind of tool might be a good idea for MG expression (at least for me).

I'm not sure my glands are still clogged, but I definately have problems with mebium gettings into my tear film properly. I do the hot compresses, and massage, but I don't think my glands are effectively expressed when I do this. I have big fingers, which are really very precise which I think is what is probably helpful to get the right pressure in the right place.

Surely there must be some kind of small and skin friendly tool to help this. Perhaps fingers for massage and tool for expression? Here is one that I found on the web - though it seems to be for eye specialists to use and perhaps on the posterior of the lid which may make it not suitable for solo home use.

Also a patent of some kind here:

Ingenious gadget - Id love to get hold of one !
Where do you find these unusual articles ?
It would be a lot easier than my method of expression - which is pressing BOTH sides of the lid margin between my finger and thumb

I was curious about how the "meibomian paddle" is used, and found this site with a picture. It's near the bottom of the article. I don't think we'll be doing this ourselves! The doctor anesthetizes the eye first.

Thanks for posting that, Calli. That's the best article I've read on MGD. The pictures made me cringe, though.

Yeah good link Calli - some good info on there. As I thought, the tool is for the eye specialist to use.

Still, I don't see why a better tool for expression over the cotton bud isn't possible.
