  • hot compresses and inflammation

should I use hot compresses in case of inflammation? Whenever there is some dust in the air my eyes become red and ugly for several days. I started to doubt maybe I can harm my eyes with these compresses during inflammation. Doctors aren't much help unfortunately - they prescribe me dexametasone but I can not use it because it makes my eyes extremely dry and after the treatment next inflammation comes very fast.
Do you have any suggestions what should I use besides saline rinses? So, so, so unhappy right now, struggling my red, itchy eyes for a week already, can't look at the mirror without hating myself... :S
One more thing - is there a difference if the hot compresses are moist or dry?

I'm not a doctor, I am a nurse. I'm going to tell you what my eye doc told me. He is a DES specialist. Why put heat on something that is already inflamed (hot)? He does not believe in hot or warm compresses for any type of DES, especially one with an inflammatory component. He prefers Restasis, Lotemax, Doxy and Azazite to reduce inflammation. If your DES is inflammatory in nature, you might try and see if a cool compress brings you any relief from the flares. Take care.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.

      HI,

has anyone said anything about allergies to you. I'm not an expert on this but red and itchy makes me think allergies.

How does one actually get tested for eye allergies? Would the doc simply just give you allergy drops and if your eyes improve then you know that you've got some type of allergy? I figure you'll know your allergic to something this way, you just won't be sure what.

Hi. Through my 10 opthamolgists I went to many other specialties. They had thought mine may have been allergies or rosacea. Anyhow for me the allergist did they skin poke test on your back. The only issue I had was to dust mites. I also found out I had seborrehic dermitits both did not help with my eye issue. I have tried everything for my eyes and inflammation and right now for me and everyone is different I am better off just with otc drops preservative free and some warm compresses to help with the styes and bleph. I use the steri lid too. Good luck finding what helps
