  • IPL, my experience

After having exhausted most treatments available (Lipiflow which gave close to no relief and Probing which gave full relief but only for 2 weeks), I had my first IPL treatment done today.

My TBU before treatment is 3 seconds in both eyes.

Will keep this thread updated with my progression, for those interested in IPL. Crossing fingers really hard here.

As for my first treatment, a bit of stinging but it is not too bad and takes no time to do. Dr seemed optimistic on the potential for results.

I hope you see some improvement.

How was your oil when your doctor pressed your eyelid?

Before treatment Dr said oil is good quality (osmolarity) but lacking in quantity. After treatment Dr said my glands seemed to have responded well to it based on what he saw but no more insight.

Thanks for your response. I am doing lipiview this Thursday to see if IPL has done anything for me or not. Mine was mostly hard oil coming out.

Good luck. I did see a large increase in oil production from one eye and less oil production from my worse eye.

Oil quality went from toothpaste to thin but still some yellowish oil. Not perfectly clear.

I have had 3 total. The change happened after 2 IPL. I has #3 done a couple weeks ago. Not sure the benefits so far.

phenix01 Just interested how bad your eyes feel with a tbut of 3? Can you work/socialise/do you need to wear moisture chambers?

My TBUT is 2-4 second. I do not have problem working with computer. It is just AC that is killing me. Restaurants and coffee shop are really bad.

It is hard, there is often pain in my eyes, I used eyedrops constantly to help manage going to work which involves a lot of computer time.

                  DAY 1 POST IPL

So far feeling a bit better than usual I would say. I usually wake up with eye really dry, this morning when I woke up my eyes felt OK..

What is stressing me out however is the mild glands truncation that I have since it took forever before I started treatments. I hope my glands can grow back with time.

It is a good sign you feel good. I was feeling sore after my first ipl for few days

UPDATE: 2 weeks after first treatment

The first week I felt a bit better, then it progressively came back to the dryness feeling like before treatment. Hopefully the second round of IPL in one week will have a more permanent benefit.

                        UPDATE: 2nd treatment

After two treatments, I can't say I'm 10/10 but definitely better than before. Maybe 7/10. Still two treatments to go.

Congrats! Keep us posted! Are you on any medication -- you might benefit from medication such as Restasis and Xiidra. I am currently on both, they can help suppress and control the inflammation long term as well.

Yes, I am on Xiidra and my Dr seemed amazed at how I have zero inflammation on the surface of my cornea. Xiidra seem to be working for me on that front which may help treatments to be effective (vs undergoing treatment with inflammation on the eye).

                              Hi phenix
Great. Do you mean you have corneal inflammation prior to IPL?
TBUT: also improved from 3 seconds?
