  • MG Professionaly Expressed caused pain

Hi everyone, Been suffering with that Meibomian gland Dysfunction for some time now and was questioning people opinion about this subject.

Recently I had visited a physician, who had done his method of Meibomian gland expression, which was pressing has hard as he could with a q-tip on each meibomian gland against the eyeball. For the first time in a year or so, I had seen minimal amount of oil come out, but one problem quickly arose after the fact.

My eyes seem to be on fire now, the eyelids are burning, after the expression.

What do you think could be causing this burning?

i just had this done by a dif doc yest-he used qtips and my eyes were so awful until i awoke this am.. i could barely keep them open..the manipulation of the qtips i believe irritated the upper eyelids mostly.. awful. my other doc uses a tool which doesnt irritate that bad. and my eyes are still seeping a bit..stuff coming out...

Interesting, You said your doc uses a tool? What tool is this? What does it look like, Is it a meibomian gland Mastroda Paddle by Ocusoft, or the ****** Meibomian gland Forcepts?

These are the only tools I know that have been developed for Expressing the meibomian glands, however I have yet to find a Dry Eye doc in my area that uses that stuff.

      Which one did they use?

          All,

I see Dr. ****** every 6 months or so. When I was really bad - schirmer scores 0 - life was at a standstill - and he did probing on my upper eyelids only. It is a probe, that he puts inside the gland to open it. I could hear popping and it freaked me out. I know it sounds weird and strange - but hey, it is what it is. My eyes watered all night after the procedure and I'm pretty sure I didn't sleep. I also had all tear ducts cauterized, and started on Evoxac, so I'm not sure what helped me the most, but Dr. ****** changed my life. Try probing if you can. Get to the best cornea specialist that you can. Don't stop trying.
