  • Novel procedure: Debridement-scaling of the line of Marx and a keratinized lid margin

Debridement-scaling: a new procedure that increases meibomian gland function and reduces dry eye symptoms.
Korb DR, Blackie CA. Cornea. 2013 Dec;32(12):1554-7.

See online review of article: http://www.healio.com/ophthalmology/...gland-function

    Pubmed abstract: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?...y+Eye+Symptoms

'Debridement-scaling of keratinized lid margin' makes me think of BlephEx. This has got to be less expensive than LipiFlow.

I had the debridement done prior to lipiflow and again during my one month follow up with my eye doctor. The first time he did my left eye it was as if a damn had burst. I felt so much moisture immediately. It was incredible. My eye dr was trained by Dr. Korb on this procedure.

Hank9 had the procedure done a few weeks ago by Dr. Korb himself. He's currently writing up all the information accumulated at www.australiandryeye.webs.com - I'm just going over it and fixing a few sentences, etc (it's what I do best). I'll let you all know when it's ready, fascinating information.

Hi DCRdryeye. Great to hear that Hank9 and yourself are doing a write up on the debridement procedure! - very interested to read this when its posted. Thanks.
I just bought Dr Korbs article that was published in the December 2013 issue of Cornea. No information on the actual procedure itself that can't be found with a google, but an interesting point is made on how the widened and shifted ('anteroplaced') LOM appears to create a significant physical challenge for the oil to reach tear film.

Where is this Dr. Korb? I couldn't find a first name so I couldn't locate him. How do you find someone who is trained in this debridement procedure?
