  • halloween scleral

I asked in another post about this but no one really gave a response. What do you guys think about trying those like 100 dollar scleral lens from Halloween websites. People use them and they might be a huge help for alot of people.

Interesting idea. I don't know what the difference is between halloween sclerals and others. At this point, I probably wouldn't put any type of lenses into my eye without a medical professional (preferably a dry eye specialist) overseeing it.

This article talks about costume lenses, and how you should see your eye specialist about them.

I have no first hand experience with these whatsoever, but my guess is they are of much lower quality and are not custom fitted to your eye as compared to something like a BFS lense. Also I read in another article that some can have toxic elements in the coloring that can result in eye irritation - the last thing anyone in this forum would want. .

I assumed you were joking on the other thread so I didn't reply.

Check out this website for LASIK for $99.95. Buying a halloween scleral off the web to treat a corneal disease is pretty much comparable in terms of both safety and efficacy.

Just the thought of putting these in my eyes makes me shudder

lol Rebecca. Just read "Lasik at Home"

Got a good laugh. It makes just about as much sense as putting Halloween Sclerals into our poor eyes.

I am of the opinion that we can always use more humor in our lives.
It's good to see some humor here on these boards

I know this is getting off topic, but when opening that Lasik @ home link I got this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. The only thought that came to mind was "please tell me this is a hoax." Luckily, it is.

It isn't to help any kind of corneal disease but to help the pain of dry eye by putting eye drops in with it. I just figured they may work since they are still scleral so they work the same.

                @ Magoo

Isn't that site a riot. I remember when it first appeared years ago and we were all wishing we'd thought of it first.

                @ ttdub,

Dry eye is a corneal disease.

Badly fitting sclerals aren't just uncomfortable, they're dangerous (even on a healthy eye let alone a dry one), and unfortunately there is no such thing as a one size fits all scleral lens. Wish there were.

What if they did end up fitting

It would still be a really bad idea unless you had an expert optometrist working with you on it.
