How To Know If You Have Dry Eyes Or Something Else?

I want some help as to what to ask my opthamologist to check as I have been suffering from red sore eyes in the morning and also red visible vens and stinging eye lids for a few weeks now. I had a sinus infection also and my doc thinks its because of that and when i went to hospital the eye doc there said it sounded like an infection but when i went to an opthamologist she couldnt find much and said blepharitis, but both me and my gp dont agree this is the cause.

What should i ask on my next appointment when i go to see a diff opthamologist to check? I was thinking my tear film and meibomian gland functioning as i was also on accutane. The woman at the hospital didnt think it could be the accutane though as its been so long since i was off it, but i have heard others develop dry eyes months after accutane? Confused, and any help would be appreciated! I am using chloramphenicol at the moment and its helping a bit but not much.

Did you inject something in your sinuses (nasal decongestants, steroid nasal spray, nasal irrigation with a plastic syringe whitout a needle etc.)?

Hi Alan,

I have been keeping away from any nose sprays apart from saline solution, which i know is natural enough not to exaccerbate my eye problems. Thing is, I had a nasal growth thing removed and my nose has also been aching so there may be an infection that has likely also infected my eyes i think. I am seeing an ent specialist soon who will hopefully give me some answers. I have been told to use nasonex spray, but not sure i should as i have nose pain also and dont know where to buy a neti pot in the uk. Why dont high street shops sell them or those eye goggles/pads etc...

I know how you feel It seems like before you know it your 5 minutes with the doctor are over, and he/she did not say much or have any new ideas.

What annoys me is when these 'docs' dont know whats wrong or cant help so make out that its all in a persons head and smile and send you home with painkillers.

I havent actually used the spray apart from a few days as I have been using saline instead because of the nose surg I didnt want to use anything with steroids in. Also, if there is an infection in my sinuses, i want to avoid causing further problems until i get seen by the ent who can check everything and then give his approval. I have been doing steam inhilation daily with vicks to help with pressure build up from the sinusitis though.

The normal dose for nasonex is two sprays once a day i think. As you can see below, the spray can cause side effects:

Nasonex can cause a variety of side effects, especially for people who use it in a long term. If you just use it for 1 to 3 months month max twice a day I wouldn't worry about it, after that I would advise to discountinue it GRADUALLY, stopping it just like that would be unhealty because just after 1 week of usage your body gets addicted to it.

But if you can avoid using it, then this is the better option.
