  • Definitive dry eye test

Is there such a thing, or is it a combination of observations by a Dr. Just wondering because in my pre-Lasek screening I know that I did not have a schirmers test. How would my Dr. know if I had dry eye, maybe a florescien dye test was done? What is a reasonable standard of care to expect for pre-screening and post care? The tech responded that the Dr. could just look and tell if I had dry eyes?!
Feeling bitter that I did this to myself, now I am stuck with this affliction possibly for life as my Dr. continues to say.

Your doctor probably did a tear break up time test (TBUT) just like mine did. I recall them looking at my eyes and asking me to blink while they watched for tears and timed their rate of evaporation. I would agree this was insufficient in determining my candidacy for LASIK. It seems rather subjective to me. I must also had, however, that I'm not a real fan of the Schirmers test either. I just don't see how it can be as accurate as we need it to be.
