  • Is it permanent?

First of all, I apologize if this is in the wrong area but a mod will move it if need be. I did a search also but didn't find a real answer and even went to another board but got nothing so here's what happened to me.

I recently got into a pretty bad accident on Feb 13 which ironically was Friday the 13th. Anyways it was a head on collision with the driver fleeing the scene. Later the person had the nerve to come to my house while I was in the hospital and try to start stuff with my family.

The accident was so bad, I broke my hip which I have to have pins put in it and my eye got cut by the sunglasses I was wearing while my nose was broke and I had to get stitches in both areas. I believe I blacked out for a minute or so, when I got out, I took 1 step and fell like a rock.

I was in the hospital for close to a month and in rehab for another 2 weeks. My eye has been dry since then and though it feels like it's getting slightly better, it's still very irritating and I get sad cause I feel like it's never going to get back to normal. My doctor has recommended that I use Eye drops (fake tears) during the day which I use a good amount and at night use Lacri-Lube but it's just affecting my daily life. I don't see my doctor till June which I cannot get an answer as to what I need to do or whether this is going to be a permanent condition so if anyone has any answers to this then I appreciate it.

    Bleeding eyes,

I am so sorry to here of your accident and to end up with this...

I am new to this site as well. Adding drops and goop is such a disruption to the life we once led. I wish I had an answer to whether or nor this will be permanent. If you are adding tears fairly often, you may want to consider a lacrisert. It is an insert that you put in the far corner of your eye, and it releases tears for a period of about 12 hours. It slowly dissolves so you can take it out or leave it in. I take mine out before bed to do warm compresses and massage on my eyes. They have given me such freedom. You may want to consider this with the dr. at some point.

The eye has such healing powers. The fact that you think it is getting better is a good sign.

    Keep us posted,
    Blessings,
    Melissa

      Hi and welcome,

I am sorry about your accident, it sounds awful, but you must remembr you have experienced a trama, not just to your eye but also to your person. Give youself time to heal. I really believe that after something tramatic happens the body has work through the trama as well as dealing with the healing. This takes time. Slow down and give yourself time to heal. You are still only 10 weeks or so since the accident. I had two major surguries on one of my eyes 12 years ago, and it took the eye about a year to recover, but it made a full, or at least as far as I can tell a full recovery. Then I had Lasik, and that is another story.

Can you give us more information about your eye. What type of cut was it, where was the cut ?Did you have surgery on it? Have you had any tests performed? Are you seeing an eye specialist? If you are using drops make sure they are preservative free drops. They are more expensive, but the only way to go as you are healing.

As for the healing process, try to help your body as much as possible. This may involve a major change in your diet. If you eat well then your body can use all that nutrition and put it towards your healing, if you eat junk you will put extra strain on your body. Now is the time for more fruit, veggies and whole grains. A good multivitamin is also a good idea. I like Rainbow Light or New Chapter. They are organic and if you buy them from www.luckyvitamin.com or www.vitacost.com they are very affordable.

Omega 3 oils are also very important for the eyes, i think most people on this site are taking them.

What does your eye look like? How does it feel? If you can give us some more info we will be able to help you a little more.

      Keep well,

      Bernadette

I think yout eyes will heal, you had an accident, not dry eye syndrome!
A friend of mine had his eyes cut with a plant and it took also forever to heal!
Drink lots of water!Maybe you can get some drops that help the healing process of lttle injuries in the eye, but I don't know the name of the drops in the USA.
I wish you full recovery and I'm very sorry for your accident, I can imagine it must have been a real schock; sometimes in life bad things happen and we can't understand why...
        Keep in touch!
