  • Do you take GLA?

I was wondering if anyone here took GLA, especially in combination with fish oil? GLA is usually from borage oil, and the fish oil supplies DHA and EPA. I've been reading that GLA when taken with DHA and EPA works better than any of those alone.

      Gla

My vet told me that Restasis came from vet use of cyclosporine for dogs. Have you tried that for your service dog?

        Yes, its called optimmune.

I'm surprised no one has anything to say since taking omega 3's for dry eye inflammation is so common.

Carlson Fish Oil for eyes has Borage Oil GLA. Biotears has Black Currant Seed Oil GLA.

            Taking Borage Oil/GLA Supplements
It’s very important to always take Borage Oil/GLA supplements with your meals. If you take your supplements between meals, they won’t be properly digested and you won’t reap their anti-inflammatory benefits.

CAUTION: You should never take GLA supplements unless you also get sufficient amounts of EPA, either from fish or fish-oil supplements. Clinical trials in Dr. Chilton’s laboratory show that borage-seed oil taken alone causes a marked increase in blood levels of Arachadonic Acid which is a inflammatory. This effect is greatly reduced when GLA is taken in combination with EPA.

Have a look at these links to understand GLA. It is an old concept.

I was just reading dr. Michael Lange mentioning taking gla, i bought some borage oil.

My concern is that I already get enough gla, since my diet is alot of meat and vegetables and stuff, and i dont eat fish, i assume i just need omega 3.

The idea that to much gla can produce more inflammation is bothersome if not taken with the right amount of EPA.

I dont know what to think really.

I take thera tears nutrition and on their website they have 2 sources listed about GLA studies not helping dry eye and the concern with developing pro inflammation taking it to long.

To be safe i take 3 thera tears nutrition, and only 1 capsule of borage oil from now foods, but again, i dont know if i should be taking any gla.

My diet is not the greatest since i have a high metabolism, i never really had to watch my weight.
