  • Overproduction of MG oil and sebum on eyelids - could fish oil be contributing?

    Hi

I've been told by my ophthamologist 2 months ago that my tear film is very oily and the meibomian glands are 'working overtime'. I can see that my MGs get clogged on occasion with whitish secretions. I've also noticed that the skin around my eyelids feels very greasy, so I think this is too much sebum being secreted onto the skin. I was wondering if too much fish oil could be contributing towards this? I know fish oil is supposed to be anti-inflammatory but wonder whether it may be increasing the sebum and MG oil production? I'm currently taking two tablets a day of Simply Supplements 1000mg extra strength fish oil.

So that is giving me 660mg EPA and 440mg DHA per day - that's probably quite alot. I don't think this fish oil is the best quality either - I do get the fishy burps sometimes. Should I tone down the amount of fish oil / stop taking it?

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave
