vitamin A in so many dry eye products? does it help dry eye?

  • vitamin A in so many dry eye products? does it help dry eye?

    Everytime i have asked a doc about Vit A they say we get enough in our diet in the US... but why would they include it in supplements if it didnt work?? does anyone use it and if so, does it help?? thanks a bunch!!!

    I used vit a ointment for two months . initially helped but then became a nightmare. Didnt help me. i only use supplement c d e and iron and fish oil.

        Topical vitamin A if I remember right is intended for mucin deficiency.

        From what I remember from Dr. Holly, retinyl palmitate is difficult to stabilize in eye products so actual bioavailability of the vitamin A might be kind of questionable depending on the vehicle. I don't know anything specifically about ointment though. Just mentioning as it might be part of why it seems to help some, not others.
