These two have been part of clinical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, which affects the macular, or central, part of the retina. If retinal cells are lost or damaged in this area, clear vision---especially the ability to see details----can be lost. The trials show that Vit A and Lutein slow down the damage. The retinal cells have, as part of their structure, these pigment-rich compounds.

They don't have a direct effect on dry eyes, but do contain compounds that make you healthier, reduce free radicals, and perhaps reduce inflammation overall. So they can't hurt. By the time you're 45 or 50, you should be getting retina exams, and the doctor can tell you if there are signs of degeneration-----and can recommend these supplements.
