  • Would it do any good to take Reservratol?

I am doing warm compresses 3 times/day; eye massage; fish oil pills 3 times/day; Oracea -- all this for mgd/bleph. My right eye waters about 3 - 4 times/day.

I've been eating and drinking whatever I've read would be helpful -- red grapes, blueberries. I wonder if Reservatrol (sp?) supplement would be overkill. Would it do any harm?

I'm taking Resveratrol (Jarrows 100mg from Japanese Knotwood "Tiger Cane") right now and have been for about three weeks. I wish I could say it has cured my MGD but I can't say that. It's simply part of my regimen and it may be helping.

Supposedly, we'll all be taking a highly concentrated pill sometime in the future for its "miraculous effects" so I figured I would get a jump on it.

Downside - There are not many manufacturers making a quality product right now and it's pricey.

Upside - It might extend your life by 50% (but probably not) ... but who wants to live another 35 years with dry eye? Oh yeah, and it might also have anti-inflammatory effects that could very well help dry eye conditions.

How long have you had MGD???? What are your symptoms? Have you noticed any improvement?

I've had symptoms of MGD for about 2 years, but it got really bad 8-9 months ago. I've been getting treated for it for about 6 months now.

Symptoms are a near constant burning in my right eye, heavy eyelids, and occasional dryness on the surface of my eye. I also have swelling/fullness under my eyes, which makes me sad because I look bad.

I've experienced lots of improvement and would say I'm about 80% better than I was 6 months ago. My regimen includes restasis 4x/day, doxy (40mg/day... on a break right now for my gut), alrex (not currently using), hot showers, hot compress 1x/day, eyelid cleansing 2x/day, eyelid massage/gland expression multiple times during day. I'm going in for my first real IPL treatment in October.

PM me if you want to compare notes further.

            Hi,

I've been taking it since February of 2008. I notice no difference at all. I also have been taking fish oil since August of 2007. Nope, no difference.

My problem is severe dry eye with recurrent corneal erosions and epithelial basement membrane dystrophy.

Taking a small dose of synthroid (12.5 mcg) has made a huge difference for me, however.

I'll keep taking the fish oil and resveratrol. It be one of those things that will keep me from getting worse faster.

            Wishing and hoping,
            Liz

I take Resveratrol, and I think I'm much better, and noticed a difference when I had run out for some time, so I'm sticking with it. I also eat red grapes as well.

I take Resveratrol but cannot say that my eyes feel any better or worse because of it.

                A local nutritionist recommended these:

Serrapeptase and Bamboo Tabashir- may help If there is blockage of the ducts that provide eye moisture. Serrapeptase helps clear hardened and degraded protein. The silica in Bamboo Tabashir can help to clear hardened material in eye ducts.

I might give Serrapeptase a try at some point but I think you would need to take it for around 3 - 4 months before you can evaluate any benefits.
