  • Antidepressants and doxycycline?

    Hi everyone,
Pretty soon I am going to be going on Prozac 10mg a bit to see if it can calm some of my anxiety and what not. (After a call to the psychiatrist to see if a certain anti anxiety medicatoin is better..) However, I was wondering if that could effect my blepharitis or mgd in any way...???
Also, my eye doctor told me that next appointment he may consider an round of doxycycline for a bit and if I'm on the Prozac, will I still be able to have the effect of the doxycycline? (in the past I was given 20 mg for 4 weeks with no improvement but this time we may do a different dose...)
All help on anything is appreciated thank you so much

Crikey, i bet not many doctors know the answer to that one? my guess would be- i doubt it.. If it's not mentioned in the prozac instructions, then it's not been reported before. Problem is, we get in that much of a state (fear and anxiety) then it's gonna fail, and so will everthing else for that matter.
Not sure what prozac is? is it an anti-depressent tablet? cos 10 or 20mg is negligable(i was started on 30mg), long term patients are happily bobbing along on 200mg, which needs building upto that dosage over a month maybe. I was prescribed oral syrup promazine, which calms you down when anxiety starts taking over.
Dont bother with the herbal nonsense, it dont work!. I'm 5 months in, on Venlaflaxine anti-depressents and am only recently feeling how i used to be, it's a slow process and to be fair, the specialists did say it takes that long, i aim to be off them as soon as the winter is over...

On this link is a very intresting video re-depression http://depression.emedtv.com/prozac/...e-effects.html

      Hi Mary,
At the 10 mg. dosage, it probably won't intefere with the doxy. If you're able to get some results with the doxy, then maybe you won't need to continue the prozac. Good luck with this- I go back to eye doctor tomorrow myself as the cold weather is causing me all manner of trouble.

You would be best to check with a pharmacist for certain. I was on an antidepressant and both the doctor and pharmacist said there was no problem taking doxycycline as well. Do be mindful that doxy can cause upset tummy and so can some of the antidepressants. Apparently minocylcline has similar effect as doxy, with fewer stomach issues. Check with the pharmacist and your doctors to see if the antidepressant would affect your MGD. Antidepressants may cause dry mouth and eyes in some people.

This is true. Minocycline is released more slowly into the system but the benefits should be the same. I changed from doxy to minocycline because of a stomach problem (not caused by doxy in the first place ....)

            Long term doxycycline

            Hi,

I have been taking doxy for a few years with success, 100mg 3-4 times/week for a severe ocular rosacea. I also have 4 plugs. I've had more good than bad days. Couple of weeks ago burning and dryness exacerbated and seems that doxy has no effect.

I am wondering if anyone had success with doxy..

            Thanks,
            George
