  • Dry eye and Alcohol

    Hi guys
I live in the UK. Have recently been prescribed with having dry eye and its driving me insane :-(
Used to wear contacts all the time and now having difficulty getting them in once every two weeks.

Does anybody know if alcohol plays a major part in dry eye. I have been known to have the occassional glass of wine (or two, or four) and wonder if this could be contributing

I have started taking vitamins but dont expect these will work for some time.

    Thanks

Hi, Im also from the UK. In my personal experience, the odd glass of wine doesnt make too much difference. I never drunk a great deal anyway but I used to enjoy going for a couple of beers after Uni with the girls, however that has all stopped since my eye problems started. Apart from not being able to tolerate the environment in pubs anymore, If I do drink more than usual then yes, I do feel it in my eyes. Its just the dehydration - thats never going to be good when you're dryto begin with.

When you do have a glass of wine - try to match it with a glass of water.
