  • Chilled saline / drops

    I just wanted to ask:

I keep some saline in the fridge and when my eyes are feeling really bad or burning alot, I rinse them out with it and find it really soothing. I also do this sometimes with systane.

Can you do any damage to your eyes using it straight from the refrigerator - as its quite cold - It feels really nice when my eyes are all hot and bothered.

Probably not - but I thought Id ask the question.

One man's opinion: no. No damage.

Just be sure that nothing on the bottle (better yet, a little extra internet research or ... if you're really anal ... a quick e-mail/call to the manufacturer) says not to refrigerate.

Rebecca has mentioned this before, including for Dr. Holly's drops, IIRC: some stuff: it's okay; some stuff: it's not.

In terms of your eyes, though, I think about things like heat or cold by thinking about environments to which my eyes might naturally be exposed ... like snowflakes getting in them, or hot climates/saunas/steam baths/hot tubs.

On that basis--if it's okay for the drop--I'd guess it's okay for the eyes.

....and it does often feel extra good

I never thought of refrigerating saline before. I'm going to try it - sounds nice.
