Medication stings more when eyes hurt more?

I noticed that if my eyes already hurt when I put in the drops, any drops except for serum, then my eyes really sting after I put in the drops. The more my eyes hurt before I put in the drops, the more the eye drops sting my eyes.

The first 3 days of this week my eyes seemed to be getting better. The last 3 days of this week my eyes seem to be getting progressively worse. It does not make any sense to me and it is very depressing.

Have you tried buffering them? You can put in a little Unisol 4 (unpreserved saline) say 5-10 minutes before the drops. This usually helps. At the same time though be on the alert for possible sensitivities or allergies to ingredients in drops you may be using regularly.
