4 New (new to me anyway) Eye Drops I'm Going to Try

I've never tried any of the following eye drops and I just ordered 1 sample of each of them. They are:

Not exactly sure when the shipment will arrive (hopefully within a week or two). Wish me luck! I'll let you know in a while if any of them were useful to me.

I've been on Serum tears(50%) and Oasys tears plus for a while now.

Excellent discovery tankie. Here is my take on it. They seem to be very focussed on Hyaluronic acid and 3 from the 4 products contain it in varying strengths (hyaluronate - 0.10%, 0.15% and 0.20%). The only product with something different is Thealoz containing "Trehalose" which I have not heard of.

Below is a breakdown of the product and ingredients:

First product:
OCUSAN
Ingredient:
sodium hyaluronate 0.20%

Second product:
Hycosan
Ingredient:
sodium hyaluronate 0.10%

Third product:
Thealoz
Ingredient:
trehalose 3%

Fourth Product:
Hyabak
Ingredient:
sodium hyaluronate 0.15%

My take on it. They seem to base it all on hyaluronic acid which I agree is rather soothing but not for everyone. If someone like myself likes it, we have a choice of a higher strength. The odd product out with the "Trehalose" came out with positive results in a quick pubmed study and according to their literature can avoid corneal damage from dryness and can be used in conjunction with their other (hyaluronic) drops.

I'm suspicious, why call three different strengths of hyaluronic acid by a different name and totally separate them as different products? We know that the dry eye market is lucrative and it didn't make sense to me (perhaps it gives them 4 products rather than 2?). So I'd move with caution.

With a lot of drops sometimes the critical differences have nothing to do with what's listed on the label. For example with my old favorites, Dr. Holly's drops, you could look at them as PVA and povidone and compare them to other PVA/povidone drops - but as I learned when I got involved with the manufacturing of them years ago there are different grades of the polymers and the ones used in DRH's drops were quite different than the ones in commercial drops. Similarly with hyaluronic acid, it's not just about the concentration. There are differences in the molecular weight that you'd never know without detailed research. I believe that's why I know so many people who have done well on Oasis Tears Plus (with improvement to their tear film osmolarity, not just temporary soothing) as compared to some of the other HLA drops on the market.

Good luck with the pycnogenol. An ophthalmologist I've been consulting with who has a background in immunology, said the supplement also has anti IL1 and NF kB inhibition (reduces inflammatory markers), and she recommended cucurmin which gives
an anti IL-2 effect like Restasis and may work synergistically with the pycnogenol. An easy way to get the benefits of curcurmin is to use Tumeric - mix 1/4 tsp with 1 tsp oil and a pinch of black pepper for better bio-availability.

Good question. One thing we know for sure is that it increases levels of hyaluronic acid. Personally I have dry skin, and I've always believed that my dry skin and dry eyes are related. This is why these drops and the supplement are so appealing for me, and it's why I haven't wasted any time on ordering them as soon as I heard about them.

I'm still waiting on the pycnogenol. I probably won't get it until late December or early January.

If you mean 'Rohto' from the U.K? it's the worst eye drop i ever tried! am curios to know if anyone uses Rohto??...

Where as Hylotear was the best, it has less ingrediants than any other eye drop, yet retained elasticity for me anyway..
