Staining?

My left eye is significantly more dry than my right eye. The main symptom is I can "feel" my eyelid move across the surface of my eye. With the right eye, everything is smooth. I can also "feel" my left eye more due to the dryness.

So my eye doctor, after examining my eyes, used the word "staining". She said my left eye had some "staining" on it. Has anyone else ever encountered this word? Can someone please give me a precise definition of it?

yes. i have had staining as well-i believe it means there are dry spots on your corneas... i no longer have staining-i still have the dryness though..
