Possibly a future dry eye treatment

  • #2
There is currently a contact lens that delivers HA/sodium hyaluronate/hyaluronan to the ocular surface. I have been wearing them for about two months and find the need for rewetting drops is greatly reduced.

I have found a contact called, 'safigel' that delivers HA to the eye. Does anyone know if this lens is suitable for dry eye patients? Could it improve dry eye symptoms? Would long term use add to dry eye problems? Anyone know if this lens is available in Canada?

        Hopeful,
It possibly could work if there is some tear to work with. In order for HA to be an effective lubricant it needs water. If your puncta are plugged and there is some tear a trial might be worth it.

Even though it delivers meds I don't think the cornea would tolerate it. Unless there was meds in it to produce tears or make cornea sensitivity less.
