The aim of warm compresses is to (temporarily) increase the temperature in the lids and thus melting the residues and fatty acids in the meibomian glands. By that, it is thought that these lipids should freely flow to the surface of the eye.
The same idea is behind using various kinds of sleep glasses during the night.
But why not reach this target by topically applying some ointment onto the lids, that increases the blood flow in the lids? By now, I don't know any ointment, which is designed to be applied onto lids, but maybe some users do? Any experience with such ointment?
