For those of you interested in Anti-VEGF

Ever since Dr. Latkany posted on anti-VEGF as a potential future treatment for redness, I have been googling research articles to try to learn more.

Sometimes I come across things that are hopeful. Today I came across something that was a bit discouraging. I'm no doctor, but from the article I have attached, it appears that one topical anti-VEGF drug let to defects of the ocular surface.

It just goes to show that everything has a side-effect. One must weigh the pros and the cons.

It will be interesting to track ongoing research.

However, on 2/11/2009, there was a study posted that showed favorable results for CNV with no complications. The difference may be in subconjunctival injection vs. topical.

I too am following these studies hoping that once Avastin is approved in some modality for CNV, that we will be able to be treated for conjunctival redness and vessels off label.

I want to ask you something. I am also looking for a cure for my red veins. I hope that maybe this anti vegf could be the answer. Do you have sceleral episceleral or conjunctival veins? Do you know how I can tell if I have
episceleral or sceleral veins? (I am going to see a doctor about this but that is in about 2 mounths)

From some of your posts, it sound like you may have pterygium? Has this been diagnosed? If you do and are going to excise it, go to someone that knows what he is doing. My thought would be for you to come to the US and go to Gulani or Tseng. Not to knock the European health system, but I lived there for many years and have some experience.

thanks... I have been diagnosed and the doctor doesn´t think it will grow in to the cornea but that was a few mounths ago, and now it is a lot bigger. I really do not want anyone to cut in my eye but I guess that is what I will have to do. That is why I am looking for other ways to remove the red in my eyes. The anti vegf would be one way.
