  • Questions on punctal cauterization

I've had two plugs in the left eye since May 17 and looking to get plugs for the right. In my opinion epiphora is wonderful compared to the pain of dry eye. I know I haven’t been plugged long but I don’t like having to worry about them getting infected, migrating south, falling out, etc.

How long before I can get cauterized? Is there a standard 1-2 years after surgery before anyone would be willing to do it or do I need to have plugs in for that long or can I get it done sooner?

Is there anything you regret about getting cauterized or any tips you have?

From what I understand it's best to cauterize within the canaliculus and on the surface or ablate the area then suture it closed?
