  • How many tears are supposed to escape?

Quick question. I have had lower intracanalicular plugs for several months, and two weeks ago had medium term disolvable plugs put in the uppers. I had some itching so I instilled some Patanol. A few minutes later, I "tasted" the Patanol, similar to how I experienced it prior to having the uppers plugged. The "taste" was not as strong so I know the upper plugs are preventing some tear drainage, but not all of it. Are intracanalicular plugs designed to prevent 100% of the tear drainage? If not, what is the percentage blockage expectation?

I just realized no one had the answer. I asked my eye doctor. He said that some tears will always escape- plugs are not designed to block 100% of the drainage. More will escape if the plugs are not big enough.
