  • Cautery recovery?

Can anyone other an insight into cautery recovery? I am considering getting it done. Is it advisable to get one eye done at a time? And did you require time off work afterwards? Thank you.

I had both done at once (uppers only) and I looked like I had gone a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson and lost....lol. I could have gone to work but it was not a pretty sight. I have heard of others who didn't look like I did but they were also complaining that theirs kept opening up and had to be redone...mine have never opened. I would recommend getting both done at once and getting it over with.

Have you looked into finding a doc that inserts the Intracanalicular plugs?

My specialist here in Southern California recommended these for me since the silicone plugs continually fall out and I do much better with all four blocked. He said if I have any issues with them that they're flushed out of the puncta and it's relatively painless. Seems to be a better option than cauterization. I plan to have them done next month.

"Other punctal plugs are inserted deeper into the canaliculus, where they are out of sight. These types of tear duct plugs — technically called intracanalicular plugs — do not protrude from the punctum. They are not seen or felt, and automatically conform to the shape of the cavity. In the uncommon case where removal is needed, intracanalicular plugs are extracted by flushing them out." - Allaboutvision.com

Do intracanalicular plugs stay in place longterm? Thank you.

I have them (oasis form fit hydrogel), and have been told they definitely should stay in place.
