    On.

I didn't think the BFS "over-the-sclerals" Rx was very good ... and it wasn't. It's absolutely astounding how much I just paid for Silhouettes "frameless" glasses and the iZon wavefront lenses, in progressive style. Four to six week wait.

They're converting my Oakleys, too, but for distance vision only, and not the super-expensive iZon lenses. One week wait.

If those don't let me get back on my bicycle, then I'll drag the PanOptx's (is that how you'd say it?) in and get new lenses for those.

I really pushed the Boston Foundation to try to get all of my error corrected in the sclerals, but ... they pushed back just as hard, and--as you'd expect--they won. I wish, however....

Thanks for the good wishes. The entire appointment lasted ... oh ... about 2.5hrs.

Neil, I hope those work out for you. I wanna know how much you paid for them--you can email or PM me. I already know how expensive progressives are and they push an ordinary pair of glasses to $500+ and upward. I can only imagine the IZON.

Maybe if your glasses don't work for you, you'll ship them to me. Too bad, I know our eyes are way different. Just kidding. You did like my Panoptx goggles though, didn't ya? Even my butcher liked those on me telling me "those look pretty good." They are by far my most utilitarian eyewear. If I'm ever hassling over what I need to take, I can just bail and wear those buggers and know I'll be ok in any situation.

        Luce,

I haven't made $ peace with the 9 price tag myself, so 5 sharing the number would only 0 increase the trauma .00

If they don't work, I'll be selling pencils in Downtown San Diego to raise the shipping money. Care for a pencil, lady?

I liked 'em so much that I probably should have headed in that direction first. That's the only good news ... and folks like you and Rebecca will understand this: the sclerals take my prescription down to something semi-human, allowing me to take advantage of cool looking frames

Which is exactly what I hoped to hear. If the first two work out well, I'll be getting my Chinooks (or maybe a new pair) Rx'd out pretty quickly. Have to decide about the progressive part, though. For cycling and stuff, near work isn't a major issue.

You should post a head shot of you in those glasses, by the way (if you feel comfortable). I think it's a great example for those of us who sometimes worry about the "Spaceman" look when considering wraparounds as our primary defense....

[1] For those for whom reading between the lines, in another color, is a challenge, that number again: $950.00

Well, $950 is money well spent if the iZon lenses are all they claim.

I paid $640 for my Physio360 progressives (with Crizal anti-reflective) not including the frame price, and they are absolutely excellent. I have never had better optics in a pair of glasses. So I'm convinced new lens technologies are worth looking into.

Thank you, Cali. I think I just exhaled for the first time since 3pm yesterday

I agree, in principle, anyway: these are our (messed up, in our cases) eyes. I'm only short-changing myself by not giving myself the best possible vision.

I checked over on the OptiBoard. There really is no consensus about these iZons yet, but ... they definitely rave about the newer, high-index of refraction lenses, generally--your setup included.

Ophthonix--located only a few miles from me--is quite likely trying to oversell something to docs that costs the docs $30,000 to start. Just like LASIK, they have to recoup their money, so they have some incentive to push the product that might exceed its actual benefit to the patient.

It's said that--like others--the company is trying to race to go public, certainly to make a few dozen people extravagantly wealthy. People will say and do a great many things in pursuit of that. Again: love it or hate it, that's our system.

BTW: the OptiBoard people say that cost to the optician of the iZon lenses is $305, so ... there's >= 100% markup at the retail end.

Ouch. Some things ... it's better not to know

                Lose them?

Surprisingly, I hadn't thought about that.
