  • Testing for plugs

    Hi all,

The other day I came up with an idea for a plug test, i.e a ways to find out if my plugs were still there and working.

From time to time I'm sure I can taste the salty mix that makes up my eye drops ,which got me to thinking one of my plugs had gone.

So, I dropped some milk, yes milk, into my eyes and used a small torch to see if I could see milk at the back of my throat.
Surprisingly, the milk was quite comforting on the eye!......but alas no whiteness at the back of my throat

    Ian.

    recommend Duraplugs

    Hi,

Next time you do this test, try to get some human milk, they are good for dry eye.
I've tried 2 different kind of plugs. Both of them are without the caps, Duraplugs, they stay inside the tear way and you won't feel anything.
The first week I got them, I feel very well, a lot of tears and I got no redness anymore. But afterwards, the dryness come back. I thought the plugs are no longer there so I got plugged again, again, for a week, I had a lot of tears and afterwards, dryness. Till the third try I figured it out. The tears I got in the first week were from inflammation. Because my tear way is small and during the process of plugging my eyes were very irritated and then they got inflammation.
Maybe my eyes are too dry, my tear ways are very small too, so plug doesnt help me much.
Most people here complain about the irritation of the caps on top of the plugs, in that case, try Duraplugs, you cant feel them absolutely.

      milk

That's interesting Ian - I suppose the fat in milk (even semi skimmed) makes it hold onto things more than water. i.e. milk in a glass bottle always sticks to the sides.

edit - Not that I would actually use it!

All I can say is, please don't do this. There are bacteria and who knows what else in milk. You don't need an infection.

When I was nursing my son someone recommended a good squirt in the eye might do me some good.

I think you're all a bunch of weirdos.
