Partial flow punctal plugs

Has anyone tried any of the partial flow punctal plugs? I can't seem to tolerate two plugs in each eye, but it would be really nice to have more than I do now. Some sources seem to like these partial plugs (it's a puncta plug with a hole through the middle, essentially, so it limits tear drainage, but doesn't stop completely). I've heard from some people they tend to clog with mucus, but that was second hand. Does anyone have any experience?

If you do a search on "flow controller" you'll find lots of discussions about this kind of plugs. Many here have had success with them, including normal plugs in the lower puncti and flow controllers in the uppers.

Hi Nick,

I'd suggest giving the flow controller plugs a try once you have your eyelid margins cleaned up and are sure that the oil glands are flowing normally. I have had success with normal plugs in my lower puncti and flow controllers in the uppers. I had trouble with constant tear overflow with normal upper and lower plugs and was tired of having to wipe my eyes all the time. I still have a need to blot throughout the day with the upper flow controller plugs and find that tears only stream down my face when it's very humid outside, but am grateful that it has helped my eyes to feel better. I have problems with my MGs, so I still experience burning (although not as bad as without plugs) even though the quantity of tears is normal to above normal with normal lower plugs and upper flow controllers.
