Is there any way to know if you lost a plug?

Mine are down deep enough that I cannot see them. Neither can my friend see hers. Other than sudden dryness, which can happen anyway, how does one know if it has fallen out?. My friend thinks she lost one but cannot get into her doctor for a couple of weeks. She is on a very, very limited income and does not want to pay for another eye doctor appointment only to be told it is still there in her duct. She just is feeling more dry in that eye. Is there any way to know for sure? She has no vision insurance.

There is a possibility that corneal sensation is coming back and the dry feeling is actually the brain now recieving information about the cornea that it was not getting before. I would wait for the two week visit.
