  • Restasis made my eyes worse - does the deterioration stop?

    Hi everyone!
I'm very despaired! My eyes were quite ok in the last month (I had to take artificial tears every 2 hours but that was ok with me)
But I had (and have) a bad blepharitis, so I decided to take cyclosporine mixed with castor oil (the original restasis isn't available in Germany)
And this Restasis mix degraded my eyes extremly. It burns all day long (it even hurts in my head - not only in my eyes.. its a very broad ache!!) and my eyes are as dry as they have never been before.
So I decided to stop using the Restasis-Mix 5 days ago. But my eyes are still that bad!!!
Do I have a chance that my eyes are going better after a while? I can't believe that this restasis mix had ruined my eyes?? This can't be true!!
is there anyone who has similar experiences?

    Susie,

I can't comment on whether the Restasis mix is causing your headache pain or not but I do sympathize. I too have an almost contant headache in the forehead area and between my eyes. It is quite painful and to say the least very distracting. I attribute this to my eye sensitivities and not to the treatments. I am not using Restasis and still suffer from the headaches.

I hope that you find some relief and that the pain from the Restasis-like treatment can and will be reversed for you.

I had the same problem, learned I had a hypersensitivity to the drug. You can try instilling regular drops 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the Restasis like compound and see if that helps. I never could tolerate it.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.

I was given an NSAID drop called Akular to put 10 min before the restasis and that helped me not feel the restasis drop any more. You might consult your doctor about it.

          Hi again!
          Thanks for your replies!
I stopped the restasis application... my eyes were so bad that i couldn't go to work! They looked awful (swollen, inflammed and the sclera was dark red) und i could'nt bear it.
I'm taking minocycline for 2 weeks and I decided to wait wether minocycline can bring some relief. And I'll get sclerals from ken pullum on wednesday! Perhaps the combination of minocycline and scleral lenses is enough for me.
When the scerals won't help, I'll give restasis another chance - perhaps...
But at the moment I'm afraid of taking it:-/
