You can get cyclosporine in different strengths (i.e., Restasis = .05% cyclosporine) compounded in different vehicles. For example, I've tried olive oil, corn oil, and methylcellulose (methylcellulose needs to be refrigerated and kept only 30 days). The compounded cyclosporine is A WHOLE LOT less expensive than Restasis.

i tried corn oil but it seems so greasy and irriated my eyes more than reg restasis.. this study was done in 2007.. if it wsa so bad i dont think it would be on the market still 5 years later.. i wouldnt worry... who knows..its anything we take... in my case i take reg restasis but dont feel like it does much..but most say that.

spmcc.. what do you take it in now?? what form?

Ouch! I don't know Jenny, but LASIK is still on the market.

I've learned a very painful, but I guess valuable lesson in all this.......be very careful who you trust and fully research anything you put in or on your body (especially big pharma or large, international corporations). LASIK has taught me a very invaluable lesson and so perhaps we should consider castor oil potentially damaging........just consider even though reports aren't coming in "yet" of bad side effects (just like it's taking a long time for the public to learn about LASIK).

I tried but my lower lids felt like I was pouring acid on them (even when buffering with drops). My eyes became inflamed and swollen.

I was fairly comfortable, knew I had a bit of dry eye, but was doing computer work, living a life, everything was normal. This was about 6 weeks ago. I bought a new pair of reading glasses in LA (very groovy) and went to update my prescription at Lenscrafters. At that time, I was told I had dry eye and put on Restasis. That is EXACTLY when this whole mess started for me. I was fine before Restasis. After just two weeks on Restasis, I'm on this forum, can't work, and am in distress.

I think I had an allergic reaction to Restasis. Or something in the formula triggered a response or reaction that triggered something else, and here I am. Some sort of weird cycle is going on in my eyes – they just can’t get a grip.

I start serum drops tomorrow and we'll see what happens.

One of the side effects of Restasis is scratchy, swollen, red eyes, and the feeling of grit being in the eyes. I tried Restasis several times, but couldn't ever get past the scratchy red part. After stopping for a few weeks, it goes away, it just took time for me. Try cool compresses and cold eye drops, putting some rewetting drops in the fridge. That helped the redness and scratchiness go away.

When I tried Restasis a few years ago it felt like I was putting fire in my eyes. I've read other articles about castor oil being bad for the eyes.
