dry eye after taking accutane does restatis work to fix it

As a young teen 40 years ago I started taking Accutane to stop my acne. Well it helped. At this point in my young life I would do almost anything to get rid of the acne. As I was in my twenties once again I started on Accutane again. I have had chapped lips do to this but had no problems with using chap stick. I also had dry eyes but with artificial tears this was also ok to deal with. Now I am 58 and want to get Lasik as my eyes are getting as old as my age.

My question is. Has anyone who took accutane and got dry eye then taken restatis to correct the problem. Am I wasting my time and money trying to correct this dry eye. My option is just at my age to stay with using glasses to see clearly.

I just 5 weeks ago got Lipiflow and it had no effect on the dry eye. $1,685.00 down the drain. My doctor (the man) put me on Restasis and I have taken it for a few days. No insurance and spent 300.00 for a month supply. After I use this up and go back to (the man) and be tested again and see if it worked so I could get lasik. If there is no results with this treatment, (THAT'S IT I AM DONE )

Search Lasik and dry eye ON THIS WEBSITE. do not get lasik if you have dry eye AT ALL. YOU EILL END UP WITH SEVERE DRY EYE!!! SAVE YOUR EYES WHILE YOU STILL CAN.

Why do you want lasik when you are 58? It wont help presbyopia. It doesnt help age related vision problems. Only a multi focus IOL can do that, but I would be careful with those dry eyes.

I took Accutane quite a few years ago, but I think I had dry eyes before that. I have been on Restasis and find that it helps quite a bit. I really notice my eyes get worse if I don't use it. I get Restasis from Canada quite a bit cheaper than I can buy it in the US. It's really worth the trouble. It's exactly the same drug and packaging as I get in the US.

Hi there,

I just wanted to share a Restasis/punctal plug success story, which hopefully will encourage others to take action sooner rather than later. Long story short, I have punctal plugs in my lower two tear ducts and I LOVE them. I would encourage everyone with dry eyes to try it. The question shouldn't be, "are my eyes bad enough to warrant punctal plugs?" but rather, "why not try punctal plugs?". Honestly, you have nothing to lose, besides just a little money. I can hardly feel mine in there anymore, except when I move my eyes to the extreme left or right, but it's funny how my body has now learned not to do that because of the slight irritation. Bottom line is, the plugs worked awesome! I've had them in there for around five years now and they're still working perfectly!

Secondly, I just started taking Restasis for inflammation-induced dry eyes. For me, it's not the tear quantity, but rather the quality of the tears that's lacking. After using Restasis for only a month, I've already noticed a difference. In fact, I actually noticed a difference within the first week! The first thing I noticed was that my vision was much clearer. My ophthalmologist said my blurry vision was entirely caused by dry eye, by the way, and he was right! The second thing I noticed was that my eyes didn't get as "tired" at the end of a workday (I'm a financial analyst so I stare at spreadsheets all day). It definitely feels like the quality of my tears has already improved. I also don't get nearly as much discharge building up at the inner corner of my eye, which I think is a sign of healthier tear film. Finally, my eyes are noticeably whiter (except right after putting the drops in, because it does sting for a few minutes), which is a great side effect.

I hope people may read this and decide to take action--to try punctal plugs and Restasis. You may just love them as much as I do! It's been a long, frustrating journey for me and my Accutane-induced dry eyes, but I really think I see the end in sight. My eyes are much, much better than they were before I first tried punctal plugs. And after a few more months on Restasis, I think they'll be even better!
