  • Cyclosporine- Restasis

I wanted to share information about Restasis for the people who are taking Cyclosporine in eye drops. Cyclosporine is also used in organ transplants so that the body doesn't reject the new organ with different DNA:

"Cyclosporine is a drug that suppresses the immune system. It is used in combination with other immune suppressive drugs to prevent rejection of transplanted organs by the immune system. There are two different forms of cyclosporine, Sandimmune and Neoral. These products differ in important ways and each is used in combination with different additional immunosupressant drugs. Inadequate immune suppression may result in organ rejection and serious complications. People taking cyclosporine should follow their prescribing doctor’s directions exactly and discuss with their doctor any changes in drug therapy, vitamins, supplements, herbal products, or any other substances before making the changes."

Cyclosporine also depletes and prevents your body from absorbing magnesium, potassium, Vitamin A and resistance against Vitamin D processing in the body metabolism. As you know, we need these vitamins for healthy eyes.

So for those of you dry eye sufferers who are on Restasis, I think you should ask yourself if perhaps Restasis is one of the integral causes of your dry eye problem. Other causes of dry eye can be due to anti-biotic usage, which depletes your body of B-complex vitamins.
