  • 1 year with Restasis 50% better, but....

I started Restasis about a year ago. The first 3 months I noticed the left eye feel much better. Now I noticed that both eyes get more red and I can see vain easily. I also noticed the pinguecula on both eyes. I'm thinking to stop using Restasis. I'm not sure what to do. If I go back to see doctor they would put me back on Restasis. Should I stop and just use the eye drop that I can get over the counter?

    Hi iredeye.

I would be careful. Maybe this is your eyes telling you you can't tolerate Restasis.
On the other hand, you did fine for 1 year. Maybe you can stop for a while and see if it improves..?

    What is your diagnosis?

I have MGD. The doctor diagnosed by just pushing the glands on the eye lids and she told me right ways that my glands did not produce enough oil. Now I'm off from Restasis for about 3 moths and I noticed no different in eye condition. My eyes are still dry, so I now live by with just Refresh eye drop.

I was on Restasis for 2.5 years and just stopped because it got too irritating. My eyes feel much better. I've been off for 3 weeks.

Storm...did restasis always irritate your eyes, or did that just come after 2.5 years? I find that it just doesn't help anymore, but am afraid I'll get worse if I quit.

I'm thinking about going back to Restasis again. I have been using Refresh Optive Preservation-Free, but see not improvement. Thinking about trying Retaine MGD, but not sure what would be best.

Iredeye, there is also IPL treatment, but I'm not sure if it is covered by insurance. Speak with your doctor about it. I haven't tried it, but my doc says it works (I think treatments are quarterly) for some with MGD. Like all things dry eye, it is trial and error. PM me and I can give you the name of the clinic that performs IPL. I haven't tried it yet, but am thinking hard about it.
