  • Severe Blepharitis and scerals?

    Hi there!
Two weeks ago I was at Ken Pullums in Würzburg/Germany. (He traves ca. two times a year to Germany for fitting scerals)
Now I have to wait until the sclerals are deliverd (which usually lasts 2-3 months)
When I got the scerals fit I coult wear a test pair of scerals for about half an hour. My eyes felt very comfortable with the lenses. Of course, I coult feel that there is something in my eyes, but I thin that is quite normal when you aren't used to hard contact lenses. I didn't feel any inflammation or something like that. although I'm afraid that I won't get to grips whith the lenses because of my severe blepharitis. I have very swollen and red eyelids. People who don't know my might think that I have a hangover;-) But my eyelids aren't inflammed in the inner side. The inner side of my lids is white bzw. light pinkt. only the outside of my lids is red and ugly.
So do you think I will get problems with the scerals?
Are there other sclerals wearer with severe blepharitis?

Hello, Ken Pullam fitted me last month, I'm taking a break from them at the moment because I noted some lid sensation but I get that anyway. I have blepharitis, the sclerals help with the burning but I need to get more of an idea of if they give me that 'rebound affect' when I take them out. So I'm just going back to my normal symptoms at the moment so I can be aware when I try them again.

I can only wear them 5 hours ish at the moment but it's better than nothing.

Maybe we can see together how we get on with them. I think you've made the right choice trying them. We just have to try don't we sometimes.

      Hi Stanza,
thanks for your reply. Yeah let's see together how our sclerals will work. I hope I'll get mine soon. They have do be delivered from London to Germany and Ken told me that this will last about 1-3 month. So I have to wait now...
I'm glad to hear that blepharitis isn't a exclusion criterion for scleral lenses. But hey, don't give up, I've heard from a lot of persons that it takes its time to get used to sceral lenses. 1-2 month are not seldom. You sould slowly increase the time you wear the lenses. Your eyes will get used to them and after some time you won't feel the lenses in your eyes.
So don't stop trying. I'm curios how it will go on with our sclerals:-)
