  • easy to use?

    HI
For those who have read my intro previously and suggested these scleral lenses. Thanks very much. I am going to see another eye doctor next week and will ask about these and if I need to go to Toronto for them I certainly will. I was curious if theses are easy to put in and how often you need to take them out, clean them?, etc. I had to wear bandage contact lenses for about a year after the radiation treatments. The treatments deformed my eyelid (inward) so when the tiny lashes tried to grow back they scratched the heck out of my eye every time i blinked. not fun. like little razors caressing your eye. the doctors solution was to wear the 'bandage' lenses until he could perform surgery to fix the shape of the eyelid. The surgery worked for that problem but i've had one lash still grow towards my eye. i tried to put a lens in again with no luck. it is difficult to get my eye open wide enough, especially since the surgery. so, just wondering how easy or difficult these lenses are to use.
ps. I bought a pair of WileyX AirRage sunglasses and I LOVE THEM. Wish i knew about them a year ago! They look pretty good too. I can now go outside! still use the eyedrops but not as much. and i can sit in my backyard and enjoy the sunshine no matter how windy it is outside.

    RE: sclerals

For me, I found it difficult to open my eyes up wide enough to get the sclerals in easily... and I didn't have a relatively large size (17mm).

As for Canada and sclerals, my ophthalmologist recommended I go to Boston Foundation for Sight (BFS http://www.bostonsight.org/). Other than that, she said I could go to Halifax... she said they use the same manufacturer as BFS. Plus, if she got approval from Health Canada, the lenses would be covered (that's a big hunk of change!). The travel (air, hotel, etc.) wouldn't.

Also, just an aside, my ophthalmologist told me on Thurs that restasis is coming to Canada soon. I don't know exactly what 'soon' means, but it's going to be nice not to have to go thru the hassle of getting it from the ophthalmologist office and Health Canada (or buying it for big bucks in the states).

    Good luck with your sclerals,
    Sheila

I felt difficult to insert and put out the first week, but when i learned, i was get used quicly. Mine are 18 mm diameter and use the insert tool for better, but can handle with fingers too. Really never wore better lenses in 2o years of contacts.
