Spectacle blur?

I am in the trial fitting stage of my new Sclerals and one thing I notice but thought was normal was spectacle blur for about an hour or so after removal with a 2 or 3 hr wear time. One of the great folks on the forum mentioned this to me and said they didn’t have that with the Wave lenses.

Is spectacle blur normal with Sclerals or a bad thing? How much is acceptable? For a few weeks I've been wondering if I wouldn't have had better luck with something other than Sclerals.

Kyle, I'm pretty sure the blur is a result of too much compression, i.e. the tightness of the lens. It's a real trial and error thing. Perhaps your fitter needs to try a lens that's a little looser. I had significant blur on one lens at the beginning of my fitting in April, but by the 12 or 13th incarnation (sigh!) we'd pretty much licked it.

I'm on my 4th pair, if I remember correctly. The first ones were so tight that that after 6 hrs of use I couldn't get them out! Scared me to death. Once out, my eyes were so scratchy and gritty it took one eye and hour and a half to feel better, the other eye was gritty and sore for over 2 hours until I finally fell asleep. I thought I had ripped the flap off.
My doc asked if there were lines in the lenses after I took them out. Heck, how should I know?... my eyes were so painful I didn't bother to look. I reluctantly put them back in the next day for only an hour and when I removed them, sure enough, there was one circular line in each lens. Too tight, he said. No kidding! The pain in my eyes told me that!

Anyway,
They have been loosened up "a notch" but I still have some of the blurring after removal. Well, more so than normal I should say. I guess right now we're trying to get the Rx right. Oh, to be normal again.

Should I have no post lens blur at all, then, or is some blur normal?

You won't rip your flap off - especially with sclerals. But I think it's normal to worry about it. I still do every night when I put the suction cup on the lens to take it out. Just make sure you really soak your eye in saline before you do any lens removal, blink a few times to loosen the lens, etc. I've never heard of ANYONE pulling apart a flap by playing with their lenses.

"Lines" in the lenses?? Never heard of this. Sure he didn't mean a "ring" or impression of the lens on your sclera? Hmm.

I would say it is quite normal to have some blur after lens removal. Hard to put a number to it, but if it's lasting longer than 15 minutes (what mine lasts) then maybe it's worth second-guessing. This is a tough subject. You can't have a lens that's too tight. But you can't have one that's too loose, either.

If I were to hold the lens flat in such a way that it would hold liquid, it looked like it had a pool of saline in it with the edge of the saline about 3/16th of an inch from the edge BUT it didn't have liquid in it, it was actually a line in the lens that was gone when I removed it from the cleaner. I had no idea that could happen.

My mini-scleral is a 14mm model and it's hard to believe my soft lens is a 13.7 and looks so much smaller.

The wave lens intrigues me, too.
