  • Worse dry eye after scleral removal

I'm still in the trial phase of getting the right lenses - very slow process for me, I guess. One thing I noticed is my DE symptoms are worse in one eye after removing the lenses and has a lasting effect into the next day. Is this common?

    DG65m,
I'm in my 2nd mo. of wearing the sclerals and am finding the same thing...worse dry eye after removal. Even my corneal specialist noticed my eyes are even dryer....at one time being zeros in my eyes according to the schiemers test. My right lens digs in my eye all day and is not comfortable at all.
My Corneal Specialist put me on Azasite and it hasnt helped. I wake up during the nights dry and am so dry in the mornings that i can hardly open my eyes. This is with Genteal Oinment in my eyes before bedtime each night as well as taking Evoxac.
I just recently ordered the Tranquileye goggles and am praying they work.
I dont know what else is left to do
    My d/x is primary Sjogrens.

That's not good news. What were your numbers before you started wearing the lenses?

My uncorrected vision in my right eye started getting worse at the same time I started wearing my lenses (I'm in the trial phase so I don't wear them consistently, yet) and I can't help but think they're connected somehow.

I know there are others who wear Sclerals on here - I hope others can respond with input regardless of what it is.

I think increased dryness symptoms is pretty UNcommon and I would wonder what's causing it. For me it's just the opposite – I'm mostly pain free for awhile after taking them out and then it gradually comes back.

Temporary changes in vision though do happen to some people - and I'm not sure but I think they are more likely in those of us who've had refractive surgery. I don't know if my vision's affected by the lens after removal because I can't see well enough to know the difference

If I was getting both increased discomfort and change to vision only in one eye, I'd probably be going back to the doc to review how well it's fitting.

I have an appt to see the doc on Monday... another 10 hr trip (sigh).

This guy is compassionate but when it comes to post Lasik people he keeps saying results are never guaranteed and is vague on what's normal symptoms and what's not. I just hate making 10 hr trips and spending 30 minutes in his office (or less) and schedule another appt to try my next set of lenses. If I had only known about Dr G. - I can't afford to do this much longer!
