When they're in your eye they look pretty much the same as soft contact lenses. If someone looks close, they can see the edge, and that's about it.
I used to go to ophthalmology conferences and I'd be staffing a booth wearing my lenses, talking with ophthalmologists all day long. If I talked about the lenses and mentioned that I was wearing them, they'd say "Really??" and take a close look and then say "Oh, yeah, you are!".
