Since a few days I have email contact with Reggie who is having success with her Boston Scleral Lenses. Her dry eyes are due to MGD and blepharitis. Because we seem to have similar dry eye problems and I just ordered my sclerals here in the Netherlands (Europe), I asked her a few questions. She was so kind to answer them. I promised her to post the information on this forum so more people can benefit from the promising information.
My questions:
1. do you have a plasma coating on your sclerals?
2. how many hours do you wear them daily?
3. do you need tranquilleyes/wraparound glasses ?
4. how often do you need to lubricate your lenses?
5. do you still do the MGD treatments like warm compresses, lid hygiene and massage etc. ?
6. how much time do you spend on the computer daily?
Her answers:
1) They were plasma treated, but it's supposed to wear off in a couple of months. I don't feel any negative difference, if anything, they feel better than when I first started.
2) I wear them from 8 in the morn, to 1 in the morn. I could pretty much wear them for 18 hours if I wanted to but I reinsert them once (rarely twice) in the day to eliminate the fogging in the left lense.
3) I wear tranquileyes to sleep and I am considering the glasses if I could get a hold of them (since I spend many hours a day in my vehicle).
4) I throw some unisol (saline solution) on the lenses maybe once a day if ever. I only use soothe once when I wake up, and genteal gel once before I sleep (major drop off since I got the lenses).
5) After I got the lenses, I completely stopped all the warm compresses and lid hygiene.
6) I don't work on the computer, but I spend about 3 to 4 hours a day on the net surfing. Because of my focussing issues, it makes it more difficult for me to read.

I've been doing great with them. I too was told I had MGD and blepharitis and the sclerals have worked out wonderfully for me. I went from being a poor candidate (first visit) to a scleral success story. I still have focussing issues which I had prior to the dryness, but my life is so much better now. I was robbed of more than 6 years of my life, but I can truly say I'm now in a comfortable state. So keep your head up, and be persistent with these doctors.
I get my sclerals next week and really hope that it works well like it does for Reggie. I keep you posted. Reggie, thanks a lot!!
