  • Sclerals -wearing time restrictions

    Hello,
    I'm Yaniv from Israel.
The only contacts which fit me are Sclerals due to cornea surface. I turned to the best Scleral specialists (different places) and both told me that one thing about them is I would have to remove them every 4 hours !!
They said the reason is debris that accumulates in the saline fluid. this deberis will low oxygen transmissibility and my eyes will suffer.

Is that the case in your experience ? I read many posts and that is not the case...
?- So are there cases in which instructions are to remove Sclerals every 4 hours no matter what ?

    Thanks for answering ! :-)

It depends on the lenses, the design, the fit, the solutions, the wearer... I'd be surprised if any lens has such a consistent need for frequent removal though. I wear mine all day without taking them out. But I know others who could not wear them because of very rapid debris buildup.

I think you tried to send me a PM - sorry my box is full (way behind on stuff as usual). You can email me direct though.

does your optometrist approve this ?

does your optometrist approve this ?

Is so, I guess I'll have to confront (have no other word..) this fact with the local scleral specialists.

          Hi Yani,

I use celluvisc in my sclerals, and it helps me tremendously. I am able to keep them in all day, however, when I use another preservative free saline solution, the debris caused too much haziness, and very quickly, so I needed to remove the sclerals. Now, with the thickness of the celluvisc, I tolerate them all day.
