  • BFS sclerals vs. others

    Hi everyone,

What is the difference between BFS sclerals and sclerals done in private offices for a fraction of the cost and time? Is BFS generally (I know there are always exceptions) far superior than what private optometrists can do? I'm thinking that sclerals might happen for me in the near future (altho i hope I wont need them!) and I don't know if I should go to an optometrist in my state who does sclerals or try to go to the BFS....or maybe both? (Go to private optometrist first and if that doesn't work out, go to BFS, or vice versa like TexasEyes).

    Thanks!

I'm going for my sclerals appt next friday with Ken Pullam, I'm very nervous!!! I'm so desperate to be compatible because of my high prescription more than anything.

His are £750 a lens and £300 for the appt. Not sure how that compares but I thought it was going to be worse.

If "that little mark" you are using is kind of like the American dollar, those prices are way reasonable. I do not know how to compare the dollar amounts.

Is that a Euro mark? If it is, than its about 1.5x as much as an American dollar...so approximately $1600 or so. That is quite cheap actually! Good luck Stanza! Keep us updated! I think I might be heading down that road in a few months or so... I am hoping for a miraculous recovery so I won't need sclerals though!

Stanza, I remember reading somewhere here that Rebecca said that sclerals would originally made to deal w/ high prescriptions and hard to fit eyes with visual problems, so you shouldnt have a problem with the prescription

it's GBP, he's in the UK. Still 'ok' I think for specialised custom built lenses. I will keep you all posted
I'm hopeful but I do have eyelid problems so I'm not overly hopeful
