  • excessive tearing

I suffer from a dry eye condition after what I believe is due to wearing contacts from the time they were first developed. The opthamalogist did the plugs first which worked for awhile. He then cauterized ALL tear ducts and I have had tears running down my face for the past six years. He said there is nothing that can be done. I have water in my eyes constantly and carrying Kleenex to blot. I also had cataract removal and implants for monovision done but of course that did nothing for the constant tearing problem. Any ideas? I now live in another state and wonder if this situations can be reversed after all this time.

    My old problem

I'm curious too about what others may have to say about this problem, I had excessive tearing with tears running down my face and I know what your going through. I had surgery a couple of years ago to open my punctum's and it worked like a dream, unfortunately I'm looking at doing the permanent closure, it's crazy! I'm not producing much tears, and no tears when I cry. I'm not sure if this will ever get better, but if I have the cautery then I'll be facing the same thing. Even tho you have overflow tears do you have dry eyes?

Yes, I'm told I have dry eye. Could no longer wear contacts so tried the plugs in bottom ducts which worked fairly well but not enough. Cauterized those but still wasn't enough so opthamalogist recommended doing the top ones - BIG MISTAKE. We've moved to NC so going to see a tear duct specialist to see what can be done, if anything.
