  • normal eyes again!!!!!!!

I am so happy I can say: Yes, my eyes are normal again!!!!!I WAS fighting with dry eyes for 16 months due to antidepressants. A month ago I stopped feeling my eyes- they just went normal. I hope I will never have dry eyes again. (Or if it happens there will be the cure for this horrible disease...)
SO GOOD LUCK TO EVERONE BATTLING WITH DRY EYES!!!!!

Congratulations! That's wonderful. We hear of so many cases of sudden-onset dry eye here... it's nice to hear about sudden-ending dry eye!

          Hi Aga,

What anti-depressants were you on? I think I am dealing with the same thing. When did you go off and how long did it take your eyes to return to normal?

          Thank You!

            Hello,
I used Lexapro for about 13 months. One day I woke up with no tears at all.I could not believe that eyes could be so dry and horrible. It took me about about 18 months to recover but sometines they are dry- when I feel ill or on a plane. So I know that the recovery is still happening.

thats interesting. I used to use lexapro but when I was using it my eyes were fine then i had to switch to another med b/c my drug plan stopped paying for it, Im on Fluoxetine now but I was shortly on something else before, I cant remeber what it was...but Ive been taking antidepressants since my 20s (almost 20 years) without dry eye so i dont think its whats causing it, more likely its the thryroid disease thats the culprit, but I cant be sure.

At the beginning of taking lexapro my eyes were okey as well, I had only horrible headaches and double vision. My eyes started drying out at the end of treatment-one day I had no tears- 2mm!!!! I did all needed tests to find the reason but I am healthy so my doctor told me about this side effect and I believe that headaches/ vision problems and dry eyes can be linked in my case.
When we take such drugs we need to remember that they control our brain and can cause changes. My eye doc told me that the serotonin produced by drug is different from our serotonin. And he gave me a lecture about this but I do not remember details:-)
It is like with birth control pills- I took them for 13 years and had perfect eyes, no weight gain or problems with being a mum. Some of my friends can't tolerate them.:-)
Anyway- I will never take any antidepressants any more- shopping, spa, new car-yes. Pills-no:-)
But it is only my story
