  • Cautery/Plugs and pink eye

Well after having cautery performed the other week all was going well. Now the past few days it feels like I have a bacterial infection in my eye. My doctor when he did the cautery gave me drops for this so I am using this. It could be my fault, I got smoke in my eye at a camp fire this weekend that really hurt but Im not sure.

The scary part issue however is when you look up conjuctivitus online the symptoms all refer to blocked tear ducts, and tears not draining properly. So am i at high risk of this from re-occuring now, considering our tears just pool in our eyes and dont drain?

This is a really good question, the only thing I can say is from my own experience, a few years ago, ironically, I developed punctual stenosis (sealed tear ducts) I had tears pooling and overflowing tears for months before I went ahead and had the surgery to open them, I did not have any problem with infections during this time, and I was concerned that I was always dabbing at my eyes, I don't know if this helps because I was tearing so much, I would think it would wash away germs, I would almost think that now with my lack of tears I'd be more likely to get an infection. By the way how do your eyes feel otherwise? My only solution now is to seal my punctum's now, would like to hear your experience. Hope you feel better soon

Im not sure, my eyes feel good with tears but there is still inflamation and redness but I am not sure if thats due to whatever I have now, and will go away. Hopefully in a week or so I will have a better idea.

It seems like I could have maybe aggravated my eye rubbing them to much from the tearing and with the smoke, and being sensitive after the surgery. My eye doctor put a ton of freezing and while it didnt hurt my eye ball it hurt the eye socket around it, feels like it might be bruised a bit yet, and which was probably aggravated more by me rubbing to much.

I will update again in a week with hopefully better results.

        cautery

        Hi

Can you tell me how the cautery felt. Was it a painful procedure. It has been recommended for me as well, but not sure if I can go through with it.

Well I would say the first time it was pretty painful when I had the bottom done, the last time I had the top done it was not to bad. But i still feel slightly sore 2 weeks after almost like bruising, where as last time I felt better after a week.

I do have very sensitive eyes and eye lids. The first time it really felt like he hit the orbital bone with the freezing which really hurt, and even the second time but not as bad. After the first time I was complaining of pain so he did not freeze me again, and then i think i was under frozen because the cautery needle hurt bad and i felt pretty intense burning.

I think if you have a good doctor its not to bad. My biggest mistake is probably rubbing my eyes to much after the surgery while its still sore.

I should mention i took 4 advil the last time which is probably the entire reason the freezing did not hurt as bad.

Just a slight update Im almost in the clear, this week my eyes were fairly white, and good, no dryness or redness. My one eye i thought was infected/inflamed/irritated seemed to clear up and has been nice and moist and white, but then the left started to bother me sunday, its been sore and irritated and red now, I am hoping this passes as I finish off my anit bacterial drops and it returns to normal. It seems whenever i have an infection or irritation it travels to my left eye later and then clears up. If it does as well, I will be pretty happy with the cautery result.

When there is no irritation, discharge, and its just tears my eyes look great again and feel pretty good to. Fingers crossed this clears up and does not reoccur!
