  • Miro-128 ointment cured my severe dry eye and corneal abrasions

I joined dryeyezone today specifically to share my success story.

I was diagnosed with severe dry eye syndrom over 10 years ago when I started having corneal abrasions from my lids sticking to my corneas at night. I tried everything and many eye specialists with no relief. It became so bad at one point I could hardly open my eyes, the air hurt them so much.

Restasis - irritated my eyes and made them worse.
tear duct plugs - lots of tears, (too many) and still having symptoms.
drops - there isn't an eye drop on the market that does anything for me. Most of them irritate my eyes, even the preservative-free.
eye ointments - such as refresh nighttime ointment - limited success.

Miro-128 ointment - YES!!!!!!! Finally something that worked 100%!!!!!!!
A pharmacist who also has dry eye recommended it to me. I have been symptom free for over 6 months!!!! I also had corneal swelling that was causing astigmatism in one eye and this ointment cleared it up. My vision is better now than it has been in years! Target sells a twin-pak behind their counter, it's less expensive than Walgreens.

I also do a lid-scrub once a week with diluted baby shampoo to prevent blepharitis.

For me I believe that it wasn't so much the tear layer in my eye that was the issue, it was the oil layer. I don't know if the oil layer is given much consideration.

I hope my post will be beneficial to someone.
    Kind Regards

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for sharing! Very glad to hear you've got a solution.

Were you ever diagnosed with recurrent corneal erosions (RCE)? The frequency & severity of abrasions you're describing, and plugs not helping, and the fact that Muro (which is hypertonic and treats the edema issue, not the dryness) did help, fits the pattern of many people here with RCE. Muro is not really a dry eye treatment. But whatever the case, I'm glad it is working for you!

Chris.. So happy for you that you found a solution!! Question: How did you know that you had corneal swelling?? Was it painful? Did your doctor tell you this?

        Hi Rebecca,
I was not specifically diagnosed with RCE, I was diagnosed with Dry Eye Syndrome. It was verified that the tear layer was lacking in both eyes, especially in my left eye. However if I forget the nighttime eye ointment I will almost always have a corneal abrasion in my right eye by morning so I suspect I mjst have RCE, at least in my right eye. The Muro has made both eyes feel normal again.

        Kind Regards,
        Christine Halverson

My right eye was blurry as if I had a corneal abrasion but I didn't have any pain. My eye doctor said I had corneal swelling in my right eye and prescribed Lotemax. I think it must have helped somewhat, however the astigmatism didn't go away until I had used the Miro for several months. My assumption is that the swelling caused the astigmatism. My eye doctor also mentioned that the Miro had something in it that should also help with swelling. So it's also an assumption that the Miro eventually helped with the swelling in some way. Possibly just by giving my poor sore eyes some relief!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have 2 questions please. How long did it take of using this to see results? And, how often did you use it, just once at night? Thanks so much-it gives me hope!

I'm so glad to hear this. I'm just curious, can anyone use this? I use a gel at night but it's not helping much and have always wondered if the Miro -128 helps. I also wake up with my eyelids stuck to my eyeballs. Can this cause more harm for someone without RCE? Thx.

                Hi tootsieroll,
Good question. I don't think it would be harmful but you should check with your eye doctor or pharmacist to be certain it wouldn't cause any issues for you or interact with anything else you might be doing.

p.s. My mother uses it to lubricate and soothe her eyes after eye injections for macular degeneration and says it's helped her more than anything else.

                I hope this helps.
                Regards, Chris

Thanks Chris! I hope more people can write about their experiences so that I can make my decision whether to try it or not.
