Hello. Just thought I'd share my story. Havent been on this page in ages. I got dry eyes when I was 24. I think it was due to this one day when my contacts sticked to my eyes and i had to take them out somehow. And something might have damaged my eyes. Anyway, that is a possible explanation. I had pain every day, not horrendous pain, but it was quite hard on my psychological state. Anyway, around 2 years ago (actually when I moved from Switzerland to the UK), suddenly, my eyes got better. well, not suddenly, but very fast progressingly. I had 4 plus at that time inserted. 1.5 years ago I went to the doctor cause one had fallen out and he looked at my eyes and said: you dont need 4 plugs, one is enough. I was too scared, so I at least left in 2 plugs in one eye. I went on till about 2 months ago, when I saw my Swiss doc. He looked at my eyes and said: oh, wow. your eyes look amazing! He took out the 2nd plug on my left eye. so, now i only have 1 plug in both eyes left and I feel good. I am symptom free for probably around 4 months now. Once in a while in the night, I wake up and my eyes are quite dry and sticky. But that happens about every 3 weeks and then I just move my eyes and they will be wet quite soon.
My swiss doc even wants me to take out the rest of the plugs. but i am still scared
I might give it another year....
anyway, I know how sad I used to be so I thought I'd share my story with you guys.
I do have lots of compassion now for dry eye sufferers and chronic pain in general since I have suffered from dry eye. So there is a good part to every story. and almost every day I thank the universe for fixing my eyes.
